At Planned Parenthood, we understand that your health care is a personal and private matter. We respect your confidence and will never give out the name of anyone who uses our services. No one will be notified of your visit (your parents, other doctors, your partner) without your permission.  If you do want to discuss your health care with someone you trust (such as your parents or a partner), we can help by giving you information to make talking about this sensitive topic a little easier.

Our caring staff is here to answer your questions and to help you choose a method that is best for you. Some birth control methods require a medical exam. We also provide free condoms upon request.

Pregnancy Consultation Staff is available to test for pregnancy and provide referral information on all pregnancy options (parenthood, adoption, and medical or surgical abortion).

It is our goal to assist every client in making an informed decision that is based on her own personal values. We respect everyone's right to make a private decision.  PPSA also has clergy persons that are trained to provide support to women who are struggling with an unplanned pregnancy.  PPSA firmly believes that healthy moms produce healthy babies, and we do everything we can to support and ensure excellent prenatal care. We provide pregnant women with a variety of materials and information including prenatal care packets, public aid assistance, and referral for prenatal care.

Sexually Transmitted Infections PPSA provides testing and treatment for bacterial vaginosis, chlamydia, genital warts, gonorrhea, herpes, syphilis, trichomoniasis, HIV testing and yeast infections. Both males and females can receive testing and treatment of sexually transmitted infections.

Abortion Although PPSA does not provide abortion services at our clinic, we can refer you for a medical or surgical abortion.

If you are interested in receiving a Depo-Provera injection or any other birth control method please come into the clinic during normal hours within five days of the abortion.  Please bring your receipt, or other verification of the abortion with you.  Click Here for referrals for abortion facilities near the Springfield Area.

HIV Testing and Information Because early detection of HIV leads to a longer life span and better treatment options, we provide anonymous HIV testing and treatment.

The cost of HIV testing is $25 for a regular with the results available in one week.  These results must be given in person at a post-test counseling session.  We also offer OraQuick HIV testing for $45.  This test is a finger stick test that produces results in 20 minutes.  To protect your privacy, no real names are used for any HIV testing at PPSA.

Emergency Contraception If you ever find yourself in a situation where you need emergency contraception (like if a condom broke, birth control pills were forgotten, or you had unprotected sex), we may be able to help. Emergency Contraception (also called the morning after pill) is an increased dose of birth control pills that may be taken within 120 hours after you have sex.  The sooner after unprotected intercourse the emergency contraception is taken, the more effective it is. Call us immediately if you have had unprotected sex to see if you qualify.  On weekends you can reach a Nurse Practitioner for Emergency Contraception by calling our pager at 1-800-697-1357.

Mid-life Care Menopause is a major turning point in a woman's life. Sometimes it is a gradual change and sometimes it happens all at once. At Planned Parenthood we want to make sure this transition is a positive and healthy experience for you.  Our services include a medical evaluation, complete physical examination, and laboratory testing.  Education is also provided on ways to manage menopausal symptoms and prevent osteoporosis. Hormone Replacement Therapy is available.

Male Health Care Planned Parenthood is not just for women. We have services and information for men too. Males can be seen for medical exams in our clinic. Our staff can also provide information on condoms, vasectomies, birth control, safer sex, health care, information and instruction on Testicular Self Exam and other topics that are of special interest to men.

Employment Physicals PPSA Provides employment physicals for $35.  Because employers request a wide variety of information, please check the information needed with us before making an appointment.

Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program PPSA participates in this federally funded program that provides physical examinations, Pap smears, breast exams and mammograms for low-income women 36-64 years of age.  To find out if you qualify, call 1-800-269-4019.

Sterilization PPSA receives funding to cover the cost of sterilization for low-income men and women.  (Currently we don't have this funding available for women). Staff provides in-depth information on vasectomies and tubal ligations for women.

KidCare PPSA can assist individuals interested in applying for health insurance through the State of Illinois KidCare program.  There are five different plans to suit your income level.  KidCare covers doctor visits, dental care, well-child visits, prenatal care, specialty medical services, mental health and substance abuse services, hospital care, emergency services and prescription drugs.

Cost Costs for all services and supplies (except HIV testing, colposcopy and cryotherapy, certain lab tests, and employment physicals) are based on a sliding fee scale, and are determined by income and family size. MasterCard, Visa and Discover are welcomed.  Medicaid and the Women's Health Initiative cards are gladly accepted.  We can also bill your insurance for you (sorry, no Medicare or HMOs).

To apply for discounted services, it is helpful to bring proof of income with you.  A check stub will be fine.
